These two young ladies from Downlands Community School certainly have something to smile about – they have just passed their “Poetry Across Time”  GCSE examination with marks of 100% .  This is fantastic news as this counts as 35% of their total GCSE English Literature examination – the remainder of which they will sit in June 2013.  Well done and many congratulations!

DECEMBER 2011
Virginia McKenna OBE, founder member of Born Free Foundation, visited Downlands pupils on 8th December

She said, “The students of Downlands Community School are truly inspiring."
A group of pupils teamed up with this international wildlife charity, and visited the European Parliament in Brussels in a bid to improve conditions in Europe’s zoos.

The pupils presented the actress with a cheque for £1500 they had raised for the charity and in exchange were surprised and delighted to receive the opportunity to adopt Dolo the Lion who had recently been rescued from a very sad life in Ethopia.
