World Book Day

20 years of World Book Day was once again celebrated in style at Downlands, from Alice in Wonderland to Hunger Games, Woman in Black to Cat in the Hat we had them all. With pupils and staff donations for taking part today so far we have raised almost £300, which will be donated to Book Aid International along with any library fines paid in March.

All the pupils received a £1 World Book Day token which can be used with Scholastic Books or at any participating book shop on the High Street until 26th March.

We are also reading through the entries to our very own ‘500 Words’ competition and our amazing talented pupils are making decisions very difficult to judge and pick the top 3 in each year group.  We hope to announce the winners next week.

Also to coincide with World Book Day there is the BHEE Peacock Poetry Prize, check it out at http://bhee.co.uk/peacock-poetry-prize.

Students and staff have dressed themselves as the characters of their favourite books.  Below you can see some of our  staff wearing their costumes.
