Downlands Students Win the Rotary Club Public Speaking Competition at Hurst College to Progress to the Next Round!

DSC_0003On Wednesday 6th December 2017, three teams from Downlands Community school took part in a national public speaking competition organised by the Rotary Club, hosted by Hurstpierpoint College.

It was an exciting and entertaining evening. Each of our three teams demonstrated impressive levels of motivation, commitment and hard work. The Senior Team (Monica Yell, Charlotte Eastham and Josephine Leggett) won first place and will be progressing to the next round in March 2018, as do the Intermediate Team, led by Leo Watts (together with Zoe Cohen and Nina Walford in Year 8).

Monica Yell, in Year 11, impressed the judges with her compelling speech on the Trials and Tribulations of Social Media. Leo Watts, in Year 8, took the audience on a mesmeric journey into the world of artificial intelligence, while Ashley Latter, also in Year 8, demonstrated his love of maths, in a speech playfully entitled the M Word!

Downlands Community School would like to take this opportunity to commend each pupil on their fantastic achievement and to thank them all for representing the school in such an admirable way.
