World Book Day – Better Late than Never!

It seems hardly possible that a week ago we were battling with freezing temperatures and snow.  Today in the beautiful Sussex sunshine the students and staff at Downlands celebrated World Book Day in style.

There were numerous Harry Potters on view as well his chums, Hermione, Ginny and even Mrs Weasley!  There was a Wally (Where’s Wally), a couple of Cat in the Hats, several Thing One and Thing Twos. a fabulous Gruffalo, Bilbo Baggins and Gandalf, Oliver Twist made an appearance as did Thomas from the Maze Runner.  World Book Day is all about encouraging young people to read and develop their love of books and we can certainly say our students know their books.

Even the staff joined in – the Science department were characters from The Wizard of Oz, the Maths Department were all dressed as Dominoes, there was an Ann Boleyn (aka Ms Reid) from Wolf Hall, a Fantastic Mr Fox (aka Mr Odlin), a Demon Headmaster (our very own Mr Wignall), an Aladdin (aka Mr Smith) and a Book Thief (aka Ms Radmore)!

The students completed World Book Day quizzes in Tutor Time and the lunchtime book sale (ran by Year 8) raised £35 money for ClicSargent, The very generous students also raised almost £550 with their dressing up donations!
