Dancing on Air at Downlands

A couple of years ago, Headteacher Mark Wignall had a vision – wouldn’t it be amazing to have a Dance Studio and be able to inspire the students to take up dance.  Thanks to Sport England and the National Lottery, our hardworking PTA and some generous private donations, we were able to recruit a talented Dance teacher and offer the students the opportunity to study dance in a professional environment.  Our Dance Studio is a brilliant facility and will officially open in the middle of May.

Last night, for the very first time, Downlands held a Dance Show with performances from students in Years 7 to 11.  The Street Dance Club, the Junior and Senior Dance Companies, The Boys Dance Club, GCSE Dance students in Year 10 were performing as well as a Capoeira piece by Year 8 boys.  To music as diverse as ‘Til Enda’ by Olafur Arnolds to ‘Rolling in the Deep’ by Adele, it was stunning and beautiful and an amazing collaboration between our fabulous Dance teacher, Ms Morvah Cull and the Downlands students.  All those hours of practice and rehearsal – every lunchtime, every after school session and every weekend – in the Dance Studio culminated in a stunning display.

Thank you to Ms Cull, Ms Brewington, Mrs Robertson and Miss Lincoln and of course, the dancers.  Thank you to our photographer for the evening, Mr Darren Baldwin.

Thank you to everyone who attended – we hope we inspired you to dance too!
