It has been a hard fought campaign with some tough matches along the way. The U12 Downlands Girls Football Team has been impressive from the start of the season with sound victories over Warden Park, Burgess Hill Academy, Imberhorne and Bishop Luffa in the County Cup competition. Every girl plays their part in solid performances at every fixture – from the mid field through to the defence. Yesterday was no exception. Downlands were in great form and although Tanbridge battled hard, Grace Wellcome was on fire and shot four fantastic goals to secure the County Cup for Downlands. Grace was also “Player of the Match” and received a special trophy to commemorate her performance. PE teacher, Kyle Lusk, who manages the team described their performance as “phenomenal”. Headteacher, Mark Wignall, a very keen football fan, was at the match to support the girls and said “I am so impressed by the team performance – I am so proud of each and every one of the girls for their attitude and team spirit.” The Downalnds U12 Girls Football Team are Jessie du Preez, Poppy Husbands, Issy Baron, Georgie Holland-Villa, Saskia Wilmington, Phillipa Rothwell, Tora McMahon, Grace Wellcome, Ella Lawson and Ella Currie.
