It was sport, sport, sport last week at Downlands. We kicked off on Wednesday with an amazing PE Awards Evening. We were delighted to welcome Adam Virgo, former Brighton & Hove Albion and Celtic player to present the awards this year. The students were treated to a Q&A session in which Adam revealed that, during his career, he had played against Ibrahimovic, Ronaldo and Gareth Bale! Now running a football academy in Sussex, Adam encouraged the students work hard for their dreams and emphasised that dedication and perseverance will bring success in whatever they choose to do.
And then it was Sports Day! Every single student at Downlands takes part in Sports Day and they were all in action last Friday. It was hot; no, it was very hot but the students were brilliant – joining in, giving their all in field and track events. Our field looks like it has seen the aftermath of an earthquake with so many cracks caused by the hot weather but the PE Department did a sterling job re-routing the running track. Several school records were broken including a huge high jump by Sussex athlete Adam Lindo who jumped a whopping 1.75 m.
Dream big and we can all achieve together! Well done to Southdown House and Wolstonbury House who were joint winners of this year’s Sports Day!
