Downlands Demons

Not reported last term is the achievement of six Downlands students at the annual Haywards Heath Lions Club’s Swimarathon Held at the Dolphin Leisure Centre on Good Friday, the team swam for just under one hour aiming to swim the highest number of lengths possible and raising funds through sponsorship.

Michael Edwards, Ross Murray, Evie Macmillan, Adam Parvin, Amelia Stone and Harry Robinson formed the Downlands Demons and swam 217 lengths in 55 minutes raising £390, shared between the Downlands’ Association and the Lions’ chosen cause of Haywards Heath charity Time 4 Children. The team additionally won the highest number of lengths swum by a secondary school and received a trophy for this.

All six are competitive swimmers with Mid-Sussex Marlins Swimming Club Michael swam at the British Swimming summer championships and Amelia swam at the English National summer meet both held at Ponds Forge International Sports Venue, Sheffield in July this year.
The impressive Downlands Demons raised £441.25, of which £220.63 was donated to the Downlands School Association – thank you Ross, Evie, Adam, Amelia and Harry.
