At the start of the Easter break 29 year 10 students travelled to Berlin, for an immersive, History and German experience.
We started with a treasure hunt in the hotel, testing students German skills, finding everyday objects in teams. Students visited the main sites of the city, including the Reichstag, Brandenburg Gate, Holocaust Memorial, Bernauer Strasse and East Side Gallery as well as check point Charlie. Sunday was a more sombre day, when students went to Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp just outside the city; in the evening we saw Berlin by night by travelling 203 meters above Berlin in the TV Tower.
On our final day we went to the Olympic Stadium, built by the Nazis for the Berlin Olympics in 1936.
The weather was very kind to us, the students walked and walked (35 miles in 3.5 days), we travelled on many trains (how many stops?) and we ate many pretzels. Looking forward to Berlin in 2020.
