We are delighted to announce that Downlands Community School has received the Secondary Geography Quality Mark from the Geographical Association.The award encourages and supports schools to reflect on their work and strive for the highest quality in their teaching. The honour, now in its 10th year also recognises student attainment, progress and achievement.
The geography department were praised for making “geography immediately relevant and engaging for your students”. The Geographical Association also noted that the geography department had ” encouraged your students to think and write both critically and ‘geographically’, showing a clear knowledge understanding of locations, places, environments and processes at different scales from local to global. ”
Head teacher Mark Wignall said: “The geography department are thrilled the hard work of staff and students has been formally recognised by The Geographical Association, a national professional body. It reflects the work they do to engage and inspire our students in the awe and wonder of the world around them, through lessons, extra-curricular opportunities, fieldwork and international visits.”
