Downlands Students Send Hope to Australia

With estimates of over 1 billion animals lost to the terrible wild fires in Australia, our students have been busy contributing to the efforts to save as many joeys as possible. Answering a call from the Animal Rescue Craft Guild, every lunch time the students, together with Mrs Moller and Mrs Grala, have been making joey pouches out of donated sheets and material. About two years ago, we had a massive donation of art and craft materials from a local resident, which has now been put to very good use. From cutting out the material, to ironing, to sewing and putting the pouches together, it has been a wonderful team effort. The pouches are now on their way to Gatwick Airport for their trip to Australia on Saturday.

Year 7 have also been busy.  As you know, we love a cake at Downlands. Honey Moore and Poppy Ridley in 7DJ organised a delicious cake sale raising £137 for Wild Life Warriors Australia!

We hope that our contribution will make a difference to some of the orphaned and injured animals and baby kangaroos.
