What’s on at Downlands!

The Music Department is proud to offer the following extra-curricular activities:

At Downlands students can take part in the Bronze and Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.  Students are asked to apply to take part at the end of Year 9 with a view to completing two practice expeditions in during the autumn and spring terms of Year 10 and with the assssed expeditions taking place in the summer term.  Practice expeditions take place locally to Downlands; the assessed expeditions take place in the New Forest.  Mr Triggs, the Duke of Edinburgh scheme coordinator at Downlands, has many years of experience running the scheme and has a fully qualified team of enthusiastic teachers to help him. Run by teachers in the Maths Department, the Chess Club is very popular.  With students who compete at a national level in the school, the chess club is very succesful and competes with local schools.  In 2014 Downlands won the very prestigious Butler Cup - we also won the Butler Shield in 2015.   Chess
From Badminton to Ultimate Frisbee, there is something for everyone at Downlands.  All students are encouraged to attend one or more of the extra curricular clubs and some students represent the school at both county and national level.  Sporting clubs available during the lunch hour or after school include:

Science clubs are designed to encourage students' curiosity about the world around them.  Science clubs take place during the school day and after school.  They include:
  • Eco Club
  • STEM Club
  • Stretch & Challenge Club

  • School productions (which in the past have included "The Wizard of Oz", "Alice" and next year will be "The Blues Brothers").  Props and stage sets will be made by students under the guidance of the Art Department.
