2019 Results
Downlands Community School are celebrating the best ever results on progress with 78% of students achieving a Grade 5 or higher in both English and Maths.

Mark Wignall (Headteacher) said “We are delighted with another set of outstanding GCSE results and I congratulate our students on achieving such incredible outcomes. I would like to pay tribute to our amazing staff and determined students who yet again have made our school a great success. We are also very grateful to our extremely supportive governors and parents without whom we could not deliver such great outcomes.”

The headline figures are as follows:

  • Students achieving 5 or more standards passes (grade 4 and above ) in 5 or more subjects including Maths & English = 78%
  • Students achieving  a standard pass in English (grade 4 and above )  89%
  • Students achieving  a standard pass in Maths (grade 4 and above )  87%
  • Progress 8 = 0.42
  • Attainment 8 = 52.7
  • Grade 5 or above in English & maths GCSEs = 61%
  • EBacc average point score = 4.9
  • EBacc entry = 79%

  • Attainment has improved for all pupil groups this year. Early indications are that this is in line with the top 20% of similar schools nationally.

  • Strong passes in English and Maths at grade 5 or above was achieved by 59% of pupils this compares to 42%* nationally.

2017 Results
Students at Downlands School, in Hassocks, have achieved some excellent GCSE results.  Some 82 per cent earned a standard pass – grade 4 – or better in English & maths, while 39 per cent of passes were at an A and above (grade 7 and above).  An impressive 36 students achieved grade 9, the highest possible grade in the new reformed GCSEs.
