Young Carers
Young carers are children and young people under 18 years old, who look after a member of the family who is sick, disabled, has mental health problems or is misusing drugs or alcohol. At Downlands we recognise the impact of these caring responsibilities which may cause difficulties at home and school.
Our Young Carer lead is Kate Turner – Assistant Headteacher Safeguarding and Wellbeing
Our Young Carer Champion is Joanna Cobb- Lead Pastoral Support Officer
At Downlands we recognise who our young carers are and offer support in school for those that require it. We have a pupil support group that students can access to meet fellow young carers and share their experiences. We also learn about the role of a Young Carer within our PDC curriculum. All information regarding the support we can provide for Young Carers can be found in our policy below.
