Train To Teach

Teacher Training:

Downlands is committed to developing outstanding future teachers, and we play a very active role in Initial Teacher Education (ITE). We work together with GLF to provide high quality training placements for those seeking a career in teaching via one of the Inspiring Future Teachers Hubs:  Tanbridge Teacher Training.

We also work currently with Sussex and Brighton universities.

We’re looking for people who have (or will have) a degree, a passion for teaching and who want to inspire young people to fulfil their potential.

Our experience in teacher training, our very strong exam results and Ofsted report enables us to support placement across a wide range of subjects leading to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). There are three main routes to be considered:

A University led PGCE route leading to QTS with Downlands leading one of your school placements. Applications are made to the University.

A school-based route through our partners at GLF. All training is led by GLF partner schools (Tanbridge House School) leading to QTS. Downlands will lead the longer of your school placements. Applications are made to Tanbridge Teacher Training SCITT Hub.

Cover Supervisor Training:

We have recently become excited by the opportunity to train those wishing to carry out a year as a Cover Supervisor before they commit the time and money to teacher training. We not only provide an excellent induction package but we also commit to allocating time for our expert Downlands Teaching & Learning coaches to provide training that mirrors that which teachers in their early career would receive.

This can all be a little confusing, so we urge you to contact us, or arrange a virtual meeting. We are also very happy to arrange a school visit for you to help you make the right decision.

Please contact Mrs Ellie Dickinson, Assistant Headteacher by email at edickinson@downlands.org

We look forward to hearing from you and hope you are inspired to join us.
