Downlands Community School pupils are celebrating record breaking results with
the school receiving its best ever GCSE results.
The school achieved an Attainment 8 score of 58.16 which means pupils reached an
average grade of close to 6 across all their subjects. This is significantly above national
and regional averages.
Across the year group, 85% of pupils achieved a grade 4 and 69% a grade 5 in both
English and maths, ensuring they can look forward to a smooth transition into their
post-16 options.
Several students showed outstanding attainment with 26 students averaging above a
grade 8 across all subjects and one student averaging the top grade 9 across all
subjects.
Alongside this were a number of students who made exceptional progress during their
five years at Downlands, surpassing all expectations.
Headteacher Matthew Ashdown said: “I am exceptionally proud of our students and
staff who have once again outdone themselves in achieving such fantastic GCSE
results. I would also like to acknowledge the support of our parents, carers and
governors that have contributed to this remarkable success.
Our community truly exemplifies our values of resilience, optimism, community,
kindness and self-awareness. It is our commitment to living these values every day that
ensures our pupils are safe, supported and ultimately successful in their GCSE
examinations.”
